Count it! for Cat | Indianapolis, IN Event Photographer

In January 2005, Catherine “Cat” DeBrosse passed away from SIDS after only 15 short weeks of life. After Cat’s short time with her parents, J.J. and Emily, they started the Catherine DeBrosse Scholarship Fund at Butler University. The scholarship is awarded to a female student athlete at Butler every year. In order to raise money for the scholarship fund, Count it! for Cat was started by J.J. and Emily.

Before the event each year, J.J. and Emily find people who are willing to shoot free throws and get pledges for shooting. The shooters’ goal is to raise as much money in pledges as they can. People can pledge a flat donation (and it can be whatever they are able to give, even if it’s only a flat donation of $5… because every little bit helps), or they can pledge a per-shot donation. So, if J.J. gets his co-worker to pledge $1 per shot, he will get $1 for every shot that he makes. Most of the shooters are tied to Butler or sports in some way… so they definitely know how to make a basket or two.:)

This is such a fun event! All of the shooters gather in Hinkle Fieldhouse on a Saturday and spend the afternoon shooting free throws, hanging out with old friends, and having fun…all while contributing to a great cause.

This year was the fifth year that Count it! for Cat has been held, and the shooters raised a ridiculous amount of money. They got over $60,000 in pledges. Yep…$60,000!

Here are some of my favorites from the day!

If you are interested in becoming a shooter for the 2013 event, interested in donating a pledge / becoming a sponsor, or just interested in the organization, feel free to check out the Count it! for Cat website.
